London-based Australian pianist Piers Lane has a flourishing international career that includes solo recitals in the Lincoln Centre, New York, to concerto appearances with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
His programme for Expressions combines works by two closely-associated composers, Irishman John Field, and Fredrick Chopin. Chopin’s ever-popular Waltzes are an inspired evocation of a 19th century ballroom; Alexander Scriabin’s 24 Préludes, composed during his years as a young touring concert pianist, were inspired by Chopin’s compositions of the same time.
