Tribal Rugby Festival

The Tribal Rugby Festival, in Rotorua in the Bay of Plenty, is three fun-filled days of entertainment, food and wine, Māori culture and friendly competition.

Day one: Kia Ora Challenge

Rugby fans from all corners of the globe will be welcomed and encouraged to participate in the many team activities on offer such as waka warrior canoe races on Lake Rotorua and the international fan tug 'o war. Team sign-up sheets will be available to international tour operators soon and teams will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Spectators can enjoy watching teams compete at carrying a wild boar or attempting the best international version of the haka.

Day two: Kia Ora Entertain

Rotorua’s village green will be transformed into a full-sized rugby field in the central city. New Zealand Academy teams will compete in an exhibition game showcasing the best of the up and coming rugby talents fast and furious. After the game, mix with ex Māori All Blacks at the Kiwiana Food and Wine Extravaganza. Taste the very best of New Zealand food and wine, dance to top Kiwi musicians and see some of our most talented artists' work on display. Why not take a challenge and try a huhu grub or a Bloody Mary oyster shot?

Day three: Kia Ora Celebrate

Be part of Rotorua’s biggest-ever street party bringing together our international visitors and locals to celebrate our time together. This is Rotorua’s way of saying farewell, ka kite ano to our visitors. Enjoy the festive atmosphere, sing along with the bands and dance in the street. Celebrate.

Alongside these action-packed events, entertainment will include music, singing, dancing and much merriment, while leisure time can be spent exploring Rotorua's unique attractions such as the geothermal sites and massive sequoia forests.
