Hokitika,1865, at the height of the gold rush. In a town with 100 pubs, young Halfie hangs around the Bathsheba, washing dishes, running errands, making the odd coin and relating what he sees of the parade of miners, misfits, dancing girls, petty criminals and plain drunks.
Charlotte Randall is the author of six novels, which have collected national and international awards. Charlotte has two adult children and lives in Christchurch with her husband.
