Marina Dolinskaya, Pianist – Composer
Marina is a renowned Russian pianist and composer originating from a family of musicians going back five generations. Her father is a famous conductor who encouraged her to study the piano from the age of five. Her musical education continued through music school, college and conservatory unabated for the next 22 years.
Her career takes her all over the globe performing in many of the major cities of the world. Between 2001 and 2002 she lived and performed in Sun Valley, USA the popular ski resort frequented by the rich and famous.
In 2003 she formed the Caviar Jazz Band which played together until 2008, when several members left for overseas. During this period the band played many venues including a number of jazz and blues festivals.
Marina is not only a virtuoso pianist but an accomplished composer as well. She has written and released two CD’s in the easy listening genre with her partner, lyricist / jazz singer Gabriel Karcagi. Three years ago she toured with Gabriel performing their original music in Hungary, Austria, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Their Budapest concert was broadcast on RTL Television throughout Europe to great acclaim.
The first album, ‘Wanton Desires’ released in March 2004 contains thirteen romantic songs. It was recorded in the Muscle Music Studios in Monganui, New Zealand, owned by bass legend Billy Kristian who was a member of Ray Colombus and the Invaders, Max Merritt and the Meteors, Tommy Adderley and Headband, Filthy McNasty and Nucleus amongst others. Billy played bass on both CD’s as well as performing the task of sound engineer.
In 2006 Marina and Gabriel returned to Monganui to record their second CD ‘Test of Time’ which contains eight songs and three instrumentals. For this album more instruments were incorporated including a brass section which brought a full rich sound to the music. Apart from the bass all other instruments were played by Marina on her Kurzweil synthesiser.
Last November in Auckland she performed a classical concert as a tribute to composer Frederick Chopin in celebration of his 200th anniversary followed by a sell-out concert in April 2011 featuring Jazz and Easy listening favourites.
Her concerts always end with a standing ovation from an audience who truly appreciate her music and mastery of the piano keyboard. Currently she is performing solo and duet concerts with Gabriel but plans are in motion to reform the Caviar Jazz band with new members. A third CD of original Piano music is close to completion and recording is planned to begin in October 2011.
Come and celebrate spring with this virtuoso musician as she performs a selection of romantic pieces from a wide variety of musical genres and her own compositions. Bookings are essential as seats are limited. Ticket price includes finger food. Cash bar operates during concert.
