Sir William Southgate, soloist Piers Lane and the CSO provide a musical treat with a concert devoted to the genius of Beethoven. The programme is launched by the overture to his only opera, Fidelio, a still-relevant story of oppression, heroism and personal sacrifice.
The majestic and evocative Fifth Piano Concerto (Emperor) and the extraordinary spontaneity and sheer inventiveness of the Seventh Symphony make this a night to remember.
Sir William Southgate, conductor
Piers Lane, piano
Beethoven Leonore Overture No.1, Op. 138
Beethoven Concerto for Piano No. 5, Op.73, Eb Major "Emperor"
