A travelling cinema showing solid gold Kiwi film and telly classics is coming to town during the REAL New Zealand Festival.

Magic moments from screens big and small, and a programme of classic NZ short films are heading to 19 towns in a souped-up retro Kiwi caravan called ‘New Zealand on Screen’ and we’re spending the last fortnight of our tour in the heart of Rugby World Cup 2011 celebrations in Hagley Park.

Keep an eye out for the distinctively marked caravan, come into our lounge, park yourself on a pew and enjoy the best of NZ film and television culture — from Thingee to Billy T, from Sir Ed to Cheryl West, from John Britten to Burt Munro — see Kiwi spirit celebrated onscreen.

Entry is free, and our hosts will be on hand to answer any questions about NZ film and television.

In the cosy viewing space there are terminals to explore the NZ On Screen website further, and an interactive photo booth: where you can be the star in a postcard of a famous NZ film or TV scene that you can share via e-mail or on social networks.

The six-week winter road trip during the REAL New Zealand Festival is a chance to sample the best of Aotearoa film and TV, and a rare opportunity to view Kiwi short films that have made their mark at international film festivals, from the Academy Awards to Cannes.

The last two weeks will be spent parked in Hagley Park as part of Rugby World Cup 2011 Christchurch Fanzone.

We look forward to seeing you along the way and sharing the goodness of New Zealand On Screen.
