A Riot of Spring.
Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring caused a riot when it was first performed in Paris in 1913.
The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra’s performance of the work as part of the REAL New Zealand Festival in October is also a riot – of colour and youthful energy as over 160 young people perform on stage to choreography by international choreographer and artistic director Royston Maldoom. Supported by a New Zealand choreographic team of Moss Patterson, Anne Dewey and Taiaroa Royal, and with costumes by Marama Lloyd of MOA, this performance is a huge-scale celebration of dance and music – Aotearoa-style.
