This is not Dancing with the Stars territory but folk dancing, with its infectious music, engaging rhythms and formation patterns.

The beautiful Natasha, a recent immigrant from Russia, teaches such a class in order to supplement her income, meet Kiwis, and improve her English.

Those who turn up to learn are the desperately-seeking Coral, golfing friends Laura and Janet, recently widowed Ned, U3A know-it-all Bev, and hen-pecked husband, Ray. After each class they gather at Ned’s for coffee…

It’s learning the ways of a new country, adjusting to loss, and finding love.

“There are few short cuts to happiness, but dancing is one of them.” Vicki Baum’s observation inspired Roger Hall to write his latest play, which has Hall’s usual trademarks of acute observation, compassion, and lots of humour.

Written by Roger Hall.
Directed by Lara Macgregor.

By arrangement with: Playmarket.
