Stagecraft Theatre presents "Nosferatu -Vampyre of the Night"
Imagine a life without feeling pleasure, pain, love... or guilt.
In this brand new adaptation of FW Murnau's 1922 silent film, “Nosferatu”, the classic Dracula story becomes a dark, moving portrayal of the vampire and his inability to live life as he so desperately craves – as a human.
Set in the 1850s, solicitor Jonathan Hutter leaves behind his new wife and journeys unwillingly and naively to Transylvania. There he stays with the mysterious Count Orlok in order to transact the Counts’ purchase of a large London property. Succumbing to the power of the Nosferatu (the ‘Bird of Death’), Jonathan is unable to stop the Count departing for his home town in England on a ship loaded with coffins.
When a mysterious plague appears after Orlok’s arrival, Jonathan’s wife Ellen and her doctor Professor Van Helsing discover The Book of the Vampyres and realise in horror that the Nosferatu and his followers are now amongst them.
Can Orlok be released from his haunted, savage and insatiable existence? And what price do Ellen, Jonathon and Lucy have to pay?
Adapted by Simon Boyes and Mary Coffey
