Students from across Wintec’s School of Media Arts are in their final week of classes, busily completing the last assignments of the year.
The hard work will soon be replaced with celebration as students show off their work to friends, family, community and industry in a series of Media Arts Student Showcase events.
Media Arts Head of School Margi Moore says the events provide a chance for the students to be able to showcase the work that they have spent tireless hours on during their final semester of their Diplomas and Degrees within the School of Media Arts.
“Every year, staff and students look forward to this end of year celebration. It is a way of congratulating our student’s hard work and dedication towards their study whilst being able to showcase their talent and skills to potential employees”.
To kick it all off, the two-year Diploma in Fashion Design and Practice students will showcase their final works at the annual fashion runway show, this year aptly named "Generation Twenty Eleven". The runway show debuted to an eager audience in 2009, as the inaugural graduates completed the programme; and has been a much anticipated part of the End of Year Shows since. The show is a combined effort between the School of Media Arts and the School of International Tourism, Hospitality and Events; with their students doing the hair and make up for the runway models.
Friday night brings a variety of shows, and is definitely worth getting along to. If you currently work within the media and creative industries; or if you are looking at places to study, this night will provide you with a taste of what our students get up to during their time studying within these programmes.
Year 2, 3 and Postgraduate Bachelor of Media Arts (Visual Arts) Painting and Sculpture students will be exhibiting at two places on Friday 2 December; with a sculptural installation in Ramp Gallery at 4pm, and a group exhibition at draw inc., Hamilton’s newest artists run gallery.
Year 2 and 3 photography students will be showcasing their work on the walls within P Block on the same evening, followed by a film screening in Gallagher Hub Events Room One by Undergraduate Moving Image students at 7pm.
On Tuesday 6 December, the Graphic and Interior Design students will be mingling with industry members at their invite only night, whilst a friends and family night will be held on Wednesday 7 December at 5pm in the Atrium, Wintec House.
All exhibitions are free, apart from the ticketed Fashion runway event, and members of the public are encouraged to visit and enjoy the high quality of work.
Third year BMA Commercial Music students, postgraduates and alumni will have their end of year show at the annual Summer Gardens Festival, on Saturday 18 February 2012. Every year, students get the chance to perform at the Wintec Hot House, which is held as a part of the annual Hamilton Summer festival.
