Learn a Samoan dance sequence drawn from traditional Samoan movements and influenced by modern world views. Two forms of Samoan dance will be covered: 1) Samoan Siva - this is a dance which is performed, usually standing, and enacts everyday activities with graceful wrists, hand movements and beautiful smiley faces. You will also learn meanings of many traditional actions that are still used today. 2) Sasa - a seated dance mainly using body percussion to the beat of the drummer. This dance is upbeat and fun as you can get creative with actions and the rhythm of the beat.
Tutor: Charlene Tedrow.
Term 2 (8 pm) starts on Mon 16 May 2011 and runs for 7 Mondays from 8.00–8.55 pm. (No class on Queen's Birthday Weekend)
