It's getting close to the end of May so it's time for our monthly installment of hilarious comedy at Cavern Club.... featuring some of the stars of the NZ Comedy Festival!
As always, we have another fantastic line-up to get get your laugh muscles working overtime...
Headlining this month is:
Gish
Gish… typically better known for his own takes on your favourite songs - is considered to be one of New Zealand’s most talented comics, since first appearing on Pulp Comedy in 2001 with his original ‘Stink Bro’.
With a switch to parody…Gish’s 2007 performance of ‘Don’t Go with the Big Girl in the Corner’ (Hotel California) on TV3’s AotearoHA, earned him international recognition.
This talented Maori can hold a tune or two and break out some pretty decent guitar. He’s a diamond in rough with witty lyrics and constant puns which are sure to entertain virtually any audience.
Nick Gibb
One of this years Billy T Award nominees...
After spending six years honing his skills as a sketch comedian and improviser in the unforgiving comedy wilderness of Palmerston North, Nick Gibb tentatively began exposing audiences to his stand up comedy in 2007. He has since established himself as one of the country's best up-and-coming comedians. In 2010 he won the Wellington Raw Comedy Quest. Nick's comedy combines searingly personal anecdotes with incisive, often absurdist material on everything from Batman to Catholicism.
James Nokise
As Seen on:
Pulp Comedy
TV2 New Zealand International Comedy Gala
Cadbury Crunchie Comedy Gala
Christmas Comedy Gala
New Zealand's favourite Samoan/Welsh stand-up comic, James Nokise is the first Pacific Islander to work fulltime on the United Kingdom stand-up comedy circuit. After taking Pacific culture to the other side of the world, He's now bringing some culture back to New Zealand with him.
With over two years on the UK pro circuit under his belt, Nokise has most recently written and starred in The United Colours of Comedy Sketch Show, which featured in a showcase at London's esteemed Hackney Empire in early 2008. He followed that up with his acclaimed play, The Ministers Son in 2009.
Twice nominated for New Zealand's top comedy award, James Nokise is also a veteran of two Edinburgh Fringe festivals including hosting and headlining duties during the inaugural "Best of Kiwi Showcase" in 2004. Since then he has risen to be one of the top young comedians in New Zealand.
