Te Kōkī, the New Zealand School of Music presents the 2011 Hunter Series, a series of Thursday evening concerts featuring music making of the very highest calibre.
The Puertas Quartet present:
Haydn Quartet in G, Op.77 No.1;
Zemlinsky Quartet No.4, op.25;
Beethoven Quartet in E-flat, Op.127
The Puertas Quartet was formed in 2009, after a request for the individual players to come together to play a recital including Schubert's 'Death and the Maiden' Quartet, and within just six months reached the semi-finals of the International Bordeaux String Quartet Competition, being the only British quartet to do so.
The quartet consists of two married couples, one currently living in the UK and the other here in New Zealand. Cellist, Andrew Joyce was recently appointed to Principal Cello of the NZSO and his wife Julia is currently on trial for the orchestra's Principal Viola position. Tom Norris is Co-Principal Second Violin with the London Symphony Orchestra and his wife Ellie is on trial for both violin sections there. The Puertas Quartet make their début in New Zealand with plans to return in 2012 & 2013.
The Hunter Concert Series are concerts in which the NZSM presents their performance staff/friends in professional concerts of superb music. The other concerts in this series for 2011 are on May 26, June 23, July 21, August 18, September 15, October 20 and November 24.
This event will take place in the Hunter Council Chamber, Hunter Building, Victoria University of Wellington. Seating is limited to 150.
