Experience PASSION with the NZSO.

An eagerly anticipated feature of the NZSO’s annual concert seasons, Made in New Zealand celebrates the vitality of our contemporary musical culture, uncovering new delights and showcasing the best in New Zealand creative talent. In our 2011 event, we feature a new concerto for piano by the doyen of New Zealand composition, Lyell Cresswell. Now in his mid-sixties, each new work displays all the craftsmanship, lively inventiveness and technical mastery, which he has attained in a distinguished international career. The concert also focuses on the inspiration of Shakespeare, surveying the stylistic diversity – encompassing the energy of popular music and refinement of classical sensibility – which the Bard’s plays and poetry have stimulated in New Zealand’s finest composer.

“One of the most enjoyable concerts of the year so far” - Rod Biss, NZ Listener*

“…this was an enterprising concert of worthwhile music that demonstrated the reality of a century or more of serious composition by New Zealand composers; it deserved and got a large audience” - Peter Mechen, Middle C*
