Pukekohe Youth Theatre presents "Bugsy Malone".
The year is 1929, the place New York. The story revolves around a likeable rogue, namely – Bugsy Malone. His love is boxing, he was a boxer, but gave up as he kept getting hurt. He now looks for potential fighters.
Blousey Brown is a singer who has come to New York to find a job, and hopefully become famous. She has an audition at Fat Sam's Grand Slam, (a night club), and meets Bugsy. Dandy Dan's gang attack Fat Sam's using a new weapon, “The Splurge Gun”, and Sam realises he must get splurge guns too if he is to remain in business. The story is action packed with glamorous chorus girls, boxing heroes, bungling 'hoods' and many colourful characters.
Bugsy Malone was originally a hit movie in 1975 written by Alan Parker with lyrics by Paul Williams starring Scott Baio and Jodie Foster.
Directed by Mary Gray.
