She’s coming back. Susan Gai Dowling, the award winning Australian singer with the power and passion of a full house at Eden Park, will again cross the ditch for a series of concerts.
Susan will be performing with a top trio including Mike Walker, Frank Gibson and Pete McGregor at the Auckland Jazz and Blues Club.
Susan mainly performs in Sydney in a trio featuring Australian jazz icon Bernie McGann and the brilliant guitarist Carl Dewhurst. They have been together for over eight years and tour regularly to regional cultural events. Recent sell-out performances at the Armidale Art Gallery and Bellingen the home of jazz in northern New South Wales, proved her ability to embrace and beguile her audiences with her intense and joyous expression of her art.
As the Sydney Morning Herald jazz critic John Shand wrote of Susan: “She is a singer whose natural habitat for self expression is a real jazz band.”
Of course he would know. Mr Shand is a Kiwi.
