This talk is the first in a the 2011 Community Service Council Public Speaker Series - Our Community.
Louise Nicholas, Survivor Advocate, will be speaking on the cost of sexual violence to our community.
Louise is a survivor of childhood and adult rape and a survivor of a justice system that saw her battle her way through 2 deposition hearings and 5 court cases.
Louise now works within Rape Prevention Education (RPE) as Survivor Advocate, which is funded through the Ministry of Justice and is a New Zealand/Aotearoa-wide role.
Louise’s work has her liaising with survivors, their families and communities. She represents survivor perspectives in service development and the sexual violence and abuse services sector (networking, providing advocacy and advising). Louise is on the Tauiwi Caucus of the Executive Committee of TOAH-NNEST (Te Ohaakii a Hine – National Network Ending Sexual Violence Together).
Louise was voted NZ Herald’s New Zealander of the Year 2007 and was also placed in the top 10 as one of “New Zealand’s Living Treasures”.
