Nutcracker Suite

Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite is everyone's all-time favourite symphony, whether young or old.

The Central region's Combined Youth Orchestra weekend, brings together 150 talented young musicians (all aged under 18 years old) from Hawke's Bay, Wellington and Manawatu, for intensive training and the opportunity to perform. The Manawatu Youth Orchestra, Wellington Youth Sinfonietta and Hawke's Bay Youth orchestra will play under conductors John Schwabe, Susan Melville and Michel Vinten.

Palmerston North hosted this concert 6 years ago and last year's concert, in Wellington, was outstanding.

The free concert, at the Regent, will feature music from Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite” including Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Waltz of the Flowers and Danse Chinoise, many made famous by Disney's movie Fantasia.

The objects of the Manawatu Youth Orchestra society are to educate youth and other persons in the community in musical appreciation and to provide the opportunity for musicians of all ages to participate in the performance of symphonic music.
