Singer/songwriter and Fly My Pretties member Adi Dick hosts our Late Lounge session for May. Relax on a beanbag and enjoy his blend of jazz, blues and electronic soul. All galleries, cafe, shop and cash bar open until 9pm.
Adi describes himself as a 'multi-talented singer, songwriter, beatmaker and producer', whose escapist anthem "Get Out" was written and performed for 'Return of Fly My Pretties' in 2005. Most recently, Adi released his debut solo album "Our Place" on Loop Recordings in 2007 – a collection of South Pacific soul, steeped in reggae and drenched in dub that is full of self-penned, self-produced gems.
Adi has been involved in the New Zealand music scene for over a decade, but recently spent two and a half years living in London. After initially touring with Fat Freddy’s Drop as a backing singer, he settled into the London scene playing shows in and around Europe, recording and performing with some amazing people (The Mizell Brothers, Om'mas Keith, Theo Parrish, Mark Pritchard, Andreya Triana, to name a few).
Arriving back in New Zealand in December 2009, Adi played two sold-out shows with Fly My Pretties (one on the day he landed), jumping straight back in where he left off in 2007. Over the summer he played a handful of "welcome back" solo shows both with his band "The Children of Tane" and in his "one-man-band" set-up playing both older material and some newly penned songs from his London experience.
Between collaborating with various artists from NZ and overseas on vocal and remix duties he can be seen fronting his new "future soul" side-project Sons of Puha alongside vocalist Lisa Preston and bass player Pet Johnson. He's also the host of a new Sunday night showcase at Matterhorn called "Pass the Peas".
