Printable Reality presents

In VOICE and Music
at Pah Homestead, TSB Wallace Arts Centre
2 - 4pm, Saturday 7th May

AUP poets: Anne French, Anne Kennedy, Sam Sampson, Ian Wedde

Musicians : Sarah Marlowe Spence, Yvette Audain

Printable Reality is delighted to present a reading by four poets from Auckland University Press (AUP), New Zealand's leading poetry publisher. Collectively, the four have published more than 20 collections of poetry, have won multiple awards and fellowships, and are amongst AUP's most popular performers. This is a rare chance to hear four unique and outstanding poets read in each other's company at the beautiful Pah Homestead. Poetry is accompanied by music performance by Sarah Marlowe Spence, Yvette Audain.

Anne French is a poet, critic and editor. She has published six collections of poetry, the first of which won a New Zealand Book Award. Her work has been described as "candid, sophisticated, literate, and sharp".

Anne Kennedy has published five books of fiction and poetry, and is a New Zealand Montana Award winner. She is currently on leave from the University of Hawai`i in Honolulu, where she teaches fiction and screenwriting.

Sam Sampson’s first book of poems, Everything Talks, was published in 2008 and won the Montana Best First Book of Poetry award. Sam lives in Auckland with his partner and daughter.

For more than 40 years novelist, essayist and curator Ian Wedde has also been one of New Zealand's foremost poets. He has published 14 collections and is a multiple award winner.

Sarah Marlowe Spence (Premratna) shares sacred songs and chants in the medium of voice and guitar or harmonium. Songs are in the style of 'inspirational folk', with sanskrit melted into some to uplift on a different level. With a pure soaring soprano voice, this music is another good reason to pause in the midst of busy life.

Yvette Audain is a busy, prolific freelance composing musician, her principal instruments being saxophone and clarinet. She holds a Master of Music in composition from Victoria University of Wellington, and a Bachelor of Music in composition and clarinet from the University of Auckland, from whence she also holds a Graduate Diploma in Teaching. Yvette’s performance experience encompasses classical, jazz, folk, concert band and free improvisation.
