Learn West Coast Swing (WCS) in Christchurch! No experience, partner, or booking required.

Join Mandi and Benjamin for their four-week introduction course and get introduced to a modern partner dance that’s stylish, smooth, sexy and gives heaps of opportunity for musical interpretation, West Coast Swing!

It's the freshest new partner dance in New Zealand and can be danced to many different styles of music including top 40, pop, R&B, blues, soul, techno, rock, Latin and much more

Check it out on YouTube - www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=5996E1BC2686A8CD

Developed in America, WCS is a flexible modern style of partner dance with a smooth look and elastic feel that is cherished by so many dancers all over the world. In this linear dance emphasis is put on good partnering technique, improvisation and interpreting the music making it adaptable and oh-so-much fun!

Classes are run on a casual basis so it doesn't matter if you miss a week. Lessons are 1 hour long followed by an hour of social dancing so you can practice what you have learned.

WCS is fun, relaxed and very social, which is reflected in the way classes are taught – fun, relaxed and very social! A clear and simple format is used to ensure each lesson is easy to follow and understand, even for someone who has never danced before.

Mandi and Ben have been dancing and teaching together for 5 years and love sharing their passion for WCS. They have earned a number of dancing awards both nationally and internationally.

What you need:
Chances are you’ll get hot and thirsty at some point during the evening so we’d suggest a drink bottle of water, a spare (lightweight) shirt or top, and a sports towel.
*Please bring your own clean drinking water as it is currently recommended that all water from the Christchurch supply be boiled before drinking

Apparel:
Because WCS is a casual style of partner dancing, the main thing to consider in your ‘dresscode’, is comfort. This includes the comfort of the people you are dancing with. As an example, large metal buckles, sophisticated paraphernalia, or clothes with sharp, scratchy bits may get in the way and inflict undesirable pain. Jeans and a tidy T-shirt will never go astray if you’re in a hurry.

Shoes:
Dance shoes are by no means an essential option and any shoe with a flexible sole, such as sneakers, will suffice. Women are the most likely to gain benefit from a proper pair of suede-soled dance shoes because they do most of the twisting and turning. WCS dance shoes will be available for purchase in class. Check out Dance Store Dance Shoes in Christchurch to see their full range of WCS dance shoes available.
