It’s been 22 years since Viva Voce last did an all-American programme, and a lot’s happened in the meantime. The classics are still... classics, and in this concert they’ll be reprising Samuel Barber’s wonderful, wistful cycle 'Reincarnations' and the wry, whimsical 'Americana' of Randall Thompson.

But new voices have risen to prominence and we feature two of the most celebrated: Morten Lauridsen ('Chansons des Roses' and the mini-masterpiece 'O magnum mysterium') and – arguably the world’s favourite contemporary choral composer – Eric Whitacre ('With a lily in your hand' and 'Sleep').

To top it all off, Viva Voce does a whistle-stop tour of the folk, gospel, jazz and pop traditions that make up 50 States’ worth of rich musical variety.
