The New Zealand Japanese Society of Auckland in association with the Japanese Consulate in Auckland and the Auckland Regional Council is hosting the Wings of Hope Benefit for Japan events.
The Wings of Hope benefit is in two separate parts; an afternoon family-friendly cultural festival starting at 1:00PM and features Japanese cultural demonstrations, live entertainment, an art exhibition, Japanese storytelling and kids' activities.
There is also an evening concert, hosted by Mike McRoberts from TV3’s 60 Minutes, who was at the epicentre in Sendai on March 11, and will share his first-hand account of the disaster. Additionally, professionals from the New Zealand music community will join their talents with traditional Japanese performance groups to show their support, uplift spirits and help raise money to assist with Japan’s ongoing crisis.
Confirmed artists include the Auckland Choral, organist John Wells, singer Juliagrace, Sakura no Kai Japanese chorus and soprano Lilia Carpinelli. More performers are being confirmed every day.
Tickets for the afternoon live performances are on a donation basis. The evening benefit concert tickets are $30, $20, or $10. Tickets can be purchased from the Edge by calling 0800 BUY TICKETS (0800 289 842), online at www.buytickets.co.nz, or in person from the Edge box office at Aotea Centre.
