The Film Archive presents a screening of the documentary on the establishment of Radio Hauraki.
In December 1966 Radio Hauraki began broadcasting from a boat in the Hauraki Gulf. The refusal of the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation to grant them a license forced them to take to the waters and become a pirate radio station.
This documentary tells the turbulent story of the first few years of Radio Hauraki, through water-front battles with police to ship wreck, to the eventual successful granting of a land-based broadcasting license.
3pm, Art Lounge - free
