New Zealand's future prosperity: perceptions of a scientist.
Professor Sir Paul Callaghan, 2011 New Zealander of the Year, Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand as well as the Royal Society of London, will present the next lecture in the Massey University Albany 2011 Innovation Lecture Series.
Professor Sir Paul Callaghan is one of New Zealand’s most distinguished and respected scientists. He is a research leader in the field of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and was founding director of the MacDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology, based at Victoria University. He received the Rutherford Medal in 2005, New Zealand's highest accolade for science, and is the recipient of several other prestigious prizes and awards acknowledging his contribution to science. Not only is Paul an eminent scientist, but he is also at the forefront of linking science and business.
His 2009 book Wool to Weta, outlines a vision for NZ based on science, technology, innovation and intellectual property. His research has led to a new venture, Magritek Ltd, a technology company creating innovative products in the fields of NMR and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
This lecture is held in association with the New Zealand Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Research Centre.
