Insomnia breeds insanity. A struggling writer's descent into madness.
Dick Pratt is a writer who has fallen on hard times. Due to his current financial situation, he's forced to take a job writing for a publication that he thinks is deplorable and trashy, for a man he thinks is an idiot. As a result of having no money, being forced into a job he feels is beneath him as an artist, and also due to the deeper issues within his own tortured mind, Dick begins to feel stressed and becomes depressed at the path his life has taken. Combine that with his chronic insomnia and his ever increasing madness to produce one severe case of writer's block.
Writer's Block is a new New Zealand solo black comedy written and performed by Thomas Rimmer and directed by Alec Wheeler. The play is based on a poem written by Rimmer, which explores his own struggles with insomnia and depression.
