You are invited to join the University of Waikato for an Inaugural Professorial Lecture by Professor Chris Battershill, Chair in Coastal Science, Faculty of Science & Engineering.

Challenges in the Coastal Marine Environment: From Conservation to Innovation

How do fish populations respond to marine protection and how do reefs cope with seismic exploration? In seeking answers to questions like these, scientists are discovering more about the complex ways marine organisms cope with the rigours of changing environments. Their findings are generating some highly valuable applied outcomes such as biomedicinal leads for novel therapeutic applications, including cancer treatments.

In his lecture, Professor Chris Battershill presents a selection of research projects from the Tropics to the Antarctic which offer insights into how conservation is opening doors to innovation based on marine bioresources.

This lecture will be held in the Bongard Centre, Lecture Theatre 1.06, 200 Cameron Road, Tauranga.
