Bible and Treaty: Missionaries Among the Māori – a New Perspective. Lecture by Keith Newman.

Keith Newman, author of Bible and Treaty: Missionaries Among the Māori – a New Perspective, will address the idea that the role of early missionaries has been misrepresented. ‘Missionaries played a huge part in the early colonization of the country. They were peacekeepers who taught Māori to negotiate with their enemy rather than going to war against them,’ says Newman. He also asks: ‘Were both missionaries and Māori betrayed after the Treaty was signed?’

Admission to this event is included with entry to the museum.
