NZRU Trophy Tour and Registration Drive

Rugby’s most treasured spoils are coming to Palmerston North as part of an extraordinary road show aimed at promoting the game in the Manawatu province.

“This is truly a unique opportunity for Manawatu people to get this close to these amazing trophies that have been the prizes of so many gruelling battles on the field.”

Mr Knowles is urging locals to bring their family and friends down to Arena Manawatu on Thursday 3rd March from 4 – 8pm to have their photos taken with the trophies, test their rugby skills against their local heroes and Turbos, get some great giveaways from Turbo sponsors, and enjoy a great community event.

Some activities the local clubs will be running for the rugby public to compete against, and learn from, Turbos and senior club players are sprints, tackling drills, push up and goal kicking competitions, and catching and passing drills.

Small Blacks TV have also been in contact and are excited to come along to our event to film for national television. They will be interviewing local junior players, and getting footage of the public with the trophies. “This is a great way to showcase the Manawatu, and our rich rugby heritage” says Mark Long – Rugby Operations.

John Knowles said “the local clubs and sponsors are really getting behind this event. They are excited about growing membership numbers, as well as enticing Manawatu’s best players to join their club.”

The MRU is always looking to contribute to community organisations; with this in mind, we are delighted to announce that the New Zealand Red Cross are our ‘Charity of the Day’, with all proceeds going to the Canterbury Earthquake Appeal.

There will be sponsor stalls with loads of giveaways and competitions; along with food and coffee available for purchase at the event.

MoreFM and the Breeze will also be there with music and entertainment for the whole family.
