Lindsey Kirk prints, paints, and collages using a variety of media - inducing Meccano as a significant feature - for her works, which reference Auckland's past, and the Harbour Bridge in particular.

Her work reflects on both structural details of the bridge and historical features: some paintings are geographical abstractions based on engineering details, while others are more whimsical depictions of the Harbour Bridge in Meccano, or vehicles and equipment from the 1950s.

Long-forgotten structures like the toll booths and the traffic control tower reappear in works layered with collage, printed and painted in acrylic on canvas or china plates. Two plates also feature the magnificent cast door handles still at the entrance of the old Auckland Harbour Bridge Authority Building.

Some of the works include pieces of Meccano while others are printed with Meccano shapes. The focus on Meccano references Iain Sharp's article about the Harbour Bridge, "The Big Meccano Set" (July 1990, New Zealand Geographic), as well as Lindsey's personal childhood memories of the building of the bridge and her enjoyment of playing with Meccano.
