Thursday 10th March - 9.30 am - 11 am - Practical strategies for supporting stressed or worried children and teens effectively through changing life situations - moving house, coming to a new country, parental separation, moving into a blended family, their friends or family members moving away, broken romantic relationships, having a parent living away for work, something difficult happening to a family member, a new baby, living with a newly acquired injury or disability, pet loss or changing schools. Skylight’s approach is for parents, carers, support workers and professionals working with children and teens. You will learn about building stress nets, key resilience skills and ideas to help ease a young person’s painful journey through difficult changes.
Thursday 10th March - 7.30 pm - 9 pm - Practical strategies for supporting stressed or worried children and teens through life changing situations - changes caused by the medical needs of a child, such as diagnosis, hospital tests, hospital stays, operations, telling family and friends difficult things, or families being apart due to treatments. Or it may be any number of family changes due to other non medical life situations. Skylight’s approach is for parents, carers, support workers and professionals working with children and teens. You will learn about building stress nets, key resilience skills and ideas to help ease a young person’s journey through difficult changes and also the journey of their parents and siblings. We will also look at ideas for parents/carers to make sure they take care of themselves as well.
Skylight:
Tricia Irving Hendry manages Skylight’s National Resource and Information Centre in Wellington. She has a special interest in seeing New Zealand families/whānau effectively supported when they are impacted by change, loss, trauma and grief – whatever the cause. Tricia works to source and develop effective resources and information for those who face difficult life situations. She also ensures the Skylight website continues to have excellent resources, information and support to offer New Zealand families.
Tricia has authored and co-authored a wide range of popular Skylight publications to support children, young people and their families/whānau through different issues, including Something Has Happened, When Tough Stuff Happens, Death Without Warning, After a Suicide and What Happens next?! She has a background in secondary teaching, youth work and community support work.
