One of the biggest shows at the 2010 NZ International Comedy Festival, Wilson Dixon hits Otago for the first time ever as part of the Dunedin Fringe Festival, with his award winning and critically acclaimed show "Wilson Dixon’s American Dream". Hailing from Cripple Creek, Colorado, country music legend Wilson Dixon’s melodic philosophies on life have seen him become one of the most loved characters on the AUST, UK and NZ circuit over the past 5 years.
"Wilson Dixon’s American Dream" is a show about an epic road trip he took across America with his dog, an amazing but exhausting experience as Wilson did most of the driving. For the last two years, Wilson has been living next to his ex-wife, Maureen - she ran off with another man, a man who happened to be the next door neighbour.
So Wilson says goodbye to his horse, packs his guitar and his dog, and hits the road (he doesn't really pack his dog, he just comes along for the ride. Packing dogs is actually illegal. Let’s put an end to this madness). Putting miles between himself and his life in Cripple Creek, Wilson encounters; a lonely lady running a butcher shop and hairdressing salon in one, a philosophical hick pumping gas, and a man in a wheelchair that gets pulled around by a crocodile in a harness. After thousands of miles and hundreds of towns, Wilson eventually finds himself in Nashville, Tennessee the home of country music, and is faced with one of the biggest choices of his life.
The cowboy philosopher was one of the biggest hits at the 2010 NZ International Comedy Festival earning him sell out seasons in both Auckland and Wellington with an attendance of over 3,500, then taking out Festival Awards for “Best Show” and the supreme award “The Fred” for artistic achievement. Wilson recently starred in TV2’s “Comedy Christmas Cracker - The Work Do” and has toured NZ with the “Comedy Convoy” and appeared in the “Crunchie Comedy Gala” numerous times. "Wilson Dixon's American Dream" received rave reviews and sell-out audiences at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2009, and he also appeared on Loose Ends on BBC 4 alongside Griff Rhys Jones, Malcolm McLaren, Clive Anderson and Diana Quick. His own BBC Radio series "The Wilson Dixon Line" was played in May 2009 throughout the UK and received a second transmission in 2010.
"Wilson Dixon is a construction of genius... As his masterful wordplay built to a climax, the suppressed laughter was palpable even before he finished each devastatingly astute couplet”
Upstage Write, Cutting the Fringe, UK [Edinburgh Fringe Festival preview, July 2009]
“…side-splittingly funny observations peppered with zinger one liners and showcased what a remarkable talent he is” TV3.co.nz, 2010.
For the first time ever Wilson Dixon will be heading to Dunedin, so Dunedinites hold onto your hats, this is a unique brand of cowboy humour – get in fast this will sell out!
