This February, bluegrass legend and Grammy award winner Tim O'Brien is coming back to New Zealand shores with the Two Oceans Trio.

One review of their performance at the Nelson Arts Festival 09 sums O'Brien up: “His popularity is such within his musical genre that he is to [bluegrass], as the All Blacks are to rugby here.” With Tim hot off a tour with Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits), the trio are playing 8 venues around the country. Their concerts will feature a mix of Tim's self-penned songs along with the traditional Americana folk tunes that can be found on the trio's self-titled album.

From three different continents, with two oceans between them, the musicians in Tim O'Brien's "Two Oceans Trio" find common ground in the language of roots, bluegrass, trad and Americana music. Trevor Hutchinson on the double bass (Waterboys/Lunasa/Eric Bibb) and Gerry Paul on the guitar (Gráda) will be accompanying the bluegrass legend on this tour of New Zealand and Australia.

“A master of American folk music, Irish music, Scottish music - it doesn't matter; a fine songwriter and one of my favourite singers." --Mark Knopfler

Special guest Christof will open the show - check out his MySpace link above.
