Imogen went on her OE to Spain. She fell in love with Pere, and he with her. Imogen returned home. Pere didn’t.

The uniquely modern story of Love You Approximately returns to New Zealand in 2011, spinning a yarn of two people – one in Spain, the other here – who use every method of modern communication available to them.

And in true ground-breaking spirit, the production literally takes place both in New Zealand and Spain, using actors who communicate with all that modern technology can avail: emails, webcams, chats, texts. One here and one there, in Spain.

Devised by award-winning company The Clinic, Love You Approximately uses new technologies of webcams, online chats and texting to produce a ‘real-time’ performance that fuses classic themes with the future of communication.

Since its debut at the Christchurch Arts Festival in 2009 to critical acclaim, Love You Approximately has also performed in Spain – reversing the original premise where Imogen was played live while Pere was performed ‘virtually’.

Now audiences in Wellington and Dunedin can explore their connection that crosses cultures, languages and time-zones, as Imogen and Pere create a poignant love story which is a reality for thousands of people worldwide.

And just as it has before, the 2011 seasons showcase two actors who have never actually met each other; only auditioned and then rehearsed from as far away from each other as is humanly possible.
