New Zealand ultra-marathon runner Lisa Tamati has teamed up with a Central Otago trio to bring a ‘‘brutal’’ new ultra-marathon race to the district next year, with the aim of growing it into an annual, internationally recognised event.
‘‘I’ve been looking to do a 100 mile race over here [New Zealand]’’, Tamati said. ‘‘And I just fell in love with the area [Central Otago] because it’s just so beautiful down there.’’
‘‘It’s going to be a really brutal race as far as difficulty goes... I’m really hoping to get an international field of runners over here and make it a really iconic New Zealand event,’’ Tamati said, following a second visit to Central Otago a fortnight ago to plot out the course with her race co-organisers.
