Opening to major acclaim at the Lyon Dance Biennale in 2010, Maguy Marin’s newest work Salves left its audience awestruck. With cinematic and spectacular choreography, Salves is a marvellous demonstration of Marin’s abundant talent. Seven performers (three men and four women), dance through shards of torchlight and flames chased by the rising and fading of nightmarish screams and echoes.
“What we’ve just seen, what we’ve just witnessed is more than dance. More than art.”
- Télérama
“[the audience] welcomed this masterpiece by the choreographer with long – very long – applause”
- Le Monde
Overtly political, stripped bare of any sentimentality, Marin’s creation depicts the present through operatic scenes and portraits. A design masterpiece, Salves immerses audiences in its world of memory, dream and history as it invites a re-examination of huge world-changing events.
Auckland Arts Festival and Culturesfrance are delighted to present modern dance icon Maguy Marin’s seminal work May B, and her latest work Salves in its first tour outside Europe! Salves, Marin’s newest creation, and May B, first performed over three decades ago,
bookend a stellar career and demonstrate why Marin is considered one of the most enduring and brilliant choreographers of her generation.
