Auckland Arts Festival and Culturesfrance are delighted to present modern dance icon Maguy Marin’s seminal work May B, first performed over three decades ago. This remarkable work demonstrates why Marin is considered one of the most enduring and brilliant choreographers of her generation.

Based on the absurdist characters of Irish author Samuel Beckett, May B continues to excite and surprise as much as it did when it was first performed.

Chalk-faced Beckettian characters, wrapped in ill-fitting night clothes plod, stomp and shuffle their way around the stage, comically depicting powerful moments of community and alienation. The characters search for an elusive stillness but in that search find that they are perpetually moving.

“It is difficult to define the dances of Maguy Marin, but it is easy to recognize that they are the work of a genius.” -San Francisco Chronicle
