Top line New Zealand comedians Michele A’Court and Jeremy Elwood join Amnesty International to speak out about the imprisonment of fellow Burmese comedian Zarganar – an Amnesty Prisoner of Conscience who was arrested on 4 June 2008, after he criticised the government's handling of the cyclone relief situation in interviews with foreign journalists. The plight of this comic, who really did stand up to authority, is at the heart of This Prison Where I Live, a feature documentary that tells Zarganar’s story and follows a fellow comedian from Europe, Michael Mittermeier, who heads to Burma to find out more about this remarkable man.
Stand up for your right to laugh and join Amnesty, Michele and Jeremy for the screening of this fabulous film that highlights the importance of freedom of expression not only to human rights, but to comedy itself.
