The Reading Hall, by Auckland-based artist Lisa Crowley, features a series of video works that focus on the relics of early 20th century modernity. Crowley's footage features two related subjects, fast-disappearing analogue printing processes and the Vyborg Library in Russia - a celebrated 1930s modernist building designed by Finnish architect Alvar Aalto.
The exhibition considers the relationship between the building's modernism, the materiality of books, and the disappearance of certain forms of production from contemporary culture.
