Last Night of the Proms has been the outstanding sell-out production at the Royal Wanganui Opera House for the past decade. The last production, in 2009, saw the “Full House” sign displayed and late ticket seekers turned away. There was a reason for this. The show was, and is, magnificent.
Building up to a second half of traditional “Proms” patriotic music the show uses the remarkable and outstanding talents of musical directors Bruce Jellyman and Judy Barrett to inspire Brass Wanganui and the Massed Proms Choir, with soloists Jennifer Little and Evan Huirua, to delight and engage the audience in this bi-annual musical extravaganza.
This year’s production is again directed by Tony Cowan who somehow manages to orchestrate a show that cannot be surpassed; and then surpasses it next time. This show is a true delight. A must see. And hear. And be revelled in.
In keeping with tradition net proceeds from the show, brought to you by the Rotary Club of Wanganui Daybreak, will go to a local organisation dedicated to the future of young people in Wanganui. This year that organisation is “Whanganui Life to the Max Trust” who deliver one of the few programmes in the country that actually make a positive impact on the lives of young people, and families at risk. This show is by the people of Wanganui, for the future of Wanganui – and will leave you amazed! When purchasing your tickets you may also make a donation to this cause.
