Wellington Repertory Theatre presents Tom Stoppard’s "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead".
“There is an art to the building up of suspense.” In Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Tom Stoppard has devised a verbally scintillating meta-theatrical journey to discover the purpose of the two protagonists.
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, by order of the royal court, are summoned to Elsinore to “glean what afflicts” Hamlet. Through a witty exchange of question and answer, the characters fumble their way behind the scenes of Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
Where Hamlet stops, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead begins, turning a Shakespearean tragedy into a modern classic, rich with dark humour and anticipation.
