Ricky Boyd & The Boomshack

The Boomshack Band - one night only!

What do Wanda Jackson, Connan Mockasin, Ladyhawke, Sam Scott and Liam Finn have in common? Theyʼve all played with the Boomshack Band!

In 2006, Ricky Boyd and a group of his musician friends got together with the intention of playing music together regularly, and they settled on playing early rockʼnʼroll and RʼnʼB.

“We wanted to have fun with some mates, and rockʼnʼroll seemed the perfect vehicle” said Boyd. “We play music by Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Ray Charles, Gene Vincent, Elvis Presley, Eddie Cochran, Screaminʼ Jay Hawkins, Link Wray, Fats Domino, and anything with the '50s vibe, depending on the guests, and mood of the band”.

Two years of residencies was enough for the band, and since then they play publicly only once a year. Ricky explains; “The band works because we love playing with each other. By the end of the second season we had started to get a bit sloppy, so took a bit of a break”. Now when they get together itʼs like a reunion, and a real event. With so many quality musicians in and around the band, the bar gets raised every show, and the intensity is still strong. Boyd continues; “This will be our first public gig since playing with Wanda Jackson last July. Weʼre looking forward to playing, giving each other some stick, and giving people a great night out. Itʼs what we enjoy doing most.”

Come see the Boomshack play at San Francisco Bathhouse – they will play until exhaustion takes over - or until the walking stick appears from side of stage. After them, disc jockey Simon Sweetman will play a selection of groovy records.
