Te Kōkī, the New Zealand School of Music presents the 2011 Hunter Series, a series of Thursday evening concerts featuring music making of the very highest calibre.
Margaret Medlyn and Richard Greager, well known singers and Lecturers in Voice at the NZSM, are joined by pianist Bruce Greenfield for this concert. Their programme is devised to follow the impetus of Schubert's transcendent songs and Hugo Wolf's mysterious journey through text and harmony, to the synthesis of the early 20th century operatic style of Richard Strauss's late Opus 56 songs.
Richard and Margaret have worked together many times on the operatic stage but this is the first time they have collaborated in a recital setting. Their interest in the textual content of the songs matches Bruce's interest in the harmonic structure of the whole recital which has resulted in some interesting juxtapositions. It also highlights the connecting thread in song literature through three generations of composers spanning 150 years. Within the intimate setting of the HCC this promises to be an intense and rewarding musical experience.
The Hunter Concert Series are concerts in which the NZSM presents professional concerts of superb music. Further concerts in this 2011 series are on July 21, August 18, September 15, October 20 and November 24.
This event will take place in the Hunter Council Chamber, Hunter Building, Victoria University of Wellington. Parking can usually be found on Kelburn Parade, or behind the Hunter Building by entering Gate 1. Seating is limited to 150, so to be sure of a ticket, we encourage you to pre-purchase online. Remaining seats will be available for door sale.
