Christchurch-born Martin Riseley, Head of Strings at the New Zealand School of Music, recently retuned after a number of years as Concertmaster of the Edmonton Symphony in Canada. Canadian-born Diedre Irons, an ever-welcome Classical Expressions guest, came to live in New Zealand in 1977 and has been honoured with an MBE for her services to music.Their enjoyable and diverse programme comprises Schubert’s light hearted Fantasie written in the last year of his short life, a new commission from American-born and New Zealand resident composer, Stephan Prock, Ravel’s passionate gypsy fanasy, Tzigane, and Richard Strauss’ lyrical Violin Sonata.
