The Underwater Collective:
Jared Benwell, BMA Graphic Design Honours in Illustration
Glen Leslie, BMA Graphic Design Masters in Fine Arts Painting
Alister Selliman, BMA Painting and Sculpture

Jared, Glen and Alister have been working under 'The Underwater Collective' umbrella since early 2006. The collective work, with collaboration as its premise, can grow and shrink in the number of its contributors depending on the project. Currently their most frequent collaborations are of the 'exquisite corpse' (fold over drawings) variety or improvised live painting. Their work typically explores sign-exchange, various mark making techniques, and relationships between lo-fi culture and fine art. The Underwater characteristically employ devices such as chance, collaboration, and orchestrated accident. The group works in the forms of painting, print, vinyl stickers, sculpture and chalk and has exhibited through the galleries and streets of Hamilton and Auckland.
