The Uxbridge Creative Centre has invited the art departments from local secondary schools in the Howick, Pakuranga, Botany and Flat Bush areas to showcase the artwork of their talented art students in the Uxbridge School Show.

Generously sponsored by artsupplies.co.nz and SIgnSelect, the art departments of local secondary schools have been invited to submit a range of student work from every year level (Years 9 to 13) in media ranging from painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media and more! From these submissions the Uxbridge Curator will make a selection of pieces for exhibition which will fairly represent each participating school. The schools involved are Saint Kentigerns College; Sancta Maria Secondary School; Pakuranga College; Macleans College; Howick College; Elim Christian College; and Botany Downs Secondary School.

From the exhibited works, a panel of judges will award Highly Commended prizes to three junior students (Years 9 & 10); two intermediate students (Year 11) and three senior students (Years 12 & 13). A formal opening will be held on Tuesday 21st June 2011 at 6.30pm in Uxbridge’s Malcolm Smith Gallery and the exhibition will run until Wednesday 29th June (Monday – Friday 9am – 4pm; Saturday 9.30am – 2pm).

It is intended that the Uxbridge School Show will be an annual event on the Uxbridge calendar. It is a great opportunity for secondary school students to have their artwork displayed in a professional gallery space. It is also a chance for local schools to demonstrate to the wider community their varied art curriculum and the proficiency of their teachers to foster creative talent.
