Staunch traditional Maori rowers of all ages will brave -2 C wind chill factor to compete in this annual outrigger canoe event to celebrate Matariki, the Maori New Year..

There will be great camaraderie and rowers will come from near and far including Taupo, Wellington and Gisborne.

You can watch all the action from start to finish on the raised embankment. Plenty of parking. Wear layered clothing, hat, scarf and gloves.

There are hot soups and beverages for sale at the event.
