Using the materials provided on the activities table, draw the stars that make up the constellation Matariki, also known as the Pleiades star cluster or The Seven Sisters. Maori New Year is marked by the rise of Matariki and the sighting of the next new moon. For inspiration look at Ani O’Neill’s beautiful woven star-work Kua Marino te Tai in the downstairs exhibition Beloved or the star-like images in Reuben Paterson’s DVD installation Te Putahitanga o Rehua which is on the first floor.
