Alain Resnais' multi-award-winning Hiroshima, Mon Amour remains one of the high-water marks of the French "new wave" movement. This is a complex story concerning a French actress's experiences in occupied France, juxtaposed with the ordeal of a Japanese architect who survives the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. This film strongly influenced the photographer, Fiona Amundsen, whose exhibition Fiona Amundsen: The First City in History finishes this weekend. Film courtesy of The Embassy of France, Wellington.
