The Members of the Grove of the Summer Stars and Oeder of Bards, Ovates and Druids, invite you to attend and participate in the most ancient Druid ritual of Alban Arthan - the Winter Solstice - within the stones of Stonehenge Aotearoa.

Alban Arthan: The ancient Celtic ceremony of the Winter Solstice is known in the Druid tradition as Alban Arthan which can be poetically translated as "The Light of Arthur". Here Arthur is equated with the Sun-God who dies and is reborn as the Celtic "son of Light" the Mabon - at the Winter Solstice.

The ceremony will commence at 4:30pm, shortly before sundown. Please arrive and check in no later than 4:10pm. Weather permitting we will observe the sunset over the winter solstice heel stone. As the ceremony continues, the stars appear and candles are lit from the Druidic fire.

Winter and Solstice Dinner and Presentation: After the ceremony (approx 6pm) we will have a mid winter feast and presentation.

Our after-dinner speaker is astronomer Richard Hall who will deliver a special presentation on the Winter Solstice and ancient Celtic star-lore. Guests are welcome to stay on and socialise after the presentation.

Bookings are essential: phone 06 377 1600 or email: Hamal@xtra.co.nz

Fee includes the ceremony at Stonehenge, the Solstice Dinner and presentation.
